Our Core Values

Woksape: Wisdom

I am deeply engaged in learning about my culture my ancestors have passed on and therefore I feel confident and proud of who I am and    where I came from. I take ownership of my education and my school and demonstrate this by showing respect to my school, peers, and teachers.

Example:

Student:  I show the core value of wisdom by completing my work on time, to the best of my ability, and asking questions if needed.

Teacher: We will demonstrate the core value of wisdom by understanding that our students bring their own genius to our classroom, that they are capable of learning and by providing supportive pathways to learning.

wowacintanka: Fortitude

I will persevere in learning new concepts with the knowledge that it can be difficult to learn new things, but with continued effort I will be   successful. I will follow in the footsteps of my ancestors and do what is good, right, and healthful and not take the easy way out.

Example:

Student: I will show the core value of fortitude by persevering in tasks that are difficult whether social or academic. 

Teacher: We will encourage my students by sticking with my students and being strong enough to rethink my own lessons when I don’t reach my students the first time through.  We don’t give up and move on.  We persevere, too.  We mentor them and provide the necessary scaffolding in new learning opportunities.

Woohitika: Bravery

I am deeply engaged in learning about my cI will be courageous and face challenges in a good way. I show character by speaking up about injustices, live in the values of my people, and always be truthful.

Example:

Students: I will show bravery by doing the right thing in difficult situations.

Teachers: We will have high expectations for my students while providing the necessary support so that they will have academic, emotional, and social success.

Wacantognaka: Generosity

I will persevere in learning new concepts I will be a good relative by practicing the Oceti Sakowin kinship philosophy. I will contribute to the well being of classmates and staff by sharing not only objects and possessions but also kindness, compassion, and time.

Example:

Student: I will demonstrate the value of generosity by being kind and respectful to my fellow classmates.

Teachers: We provide a safe and respectful environment for students to learn.  We will be there when a student asks time for help.
